About me

Welcome! Grab a cup of tea and have a wander around my website. I have to admit that I am a terrible tea addict . . . I pretty much always have a cup of English Breakfast on the go and have to be very careful to not dip my paintbrush in my tea or to take a big swig from cloudy paint water!

I grew up in a tiny little village in rural Bedfordshire, studied illustration at Central Saint Martins in London and have since followed a very wobbly trajectory down to Sussex. I’ve been here for a long time now and I love the gentle sweep of the Sussex Downs and being so close to the sea.

I am lucky in that I had a mother who loved art, and who took me to galleries when I was a tiny girl. My earliest memory is of her painting on our dining room table. She encouraged me with my own creativity and she is a big reason for why my art has evolved in the way it has. We shared a love of the details in the paintings we looked at together in art galleries. Pearls in a Holbein painting, the flowers in the riverbank of Millais’s Ophelia.

I’m inspired by these kinds of paintings, along with many children’s illustrators; Shirley Hughes, Arthur Rackham, to name just two. I also love costume design illustrations. Jewellery illustration has been a more recent interest, and has become the reason for this new branch of my career. I’ll explore more about my influences in the stories section of my website.

I called this section “stories” because the reasons that people buy or commission my art is always so beautiful. To have something so intensely personal commissioned is a really touching thing to do. I’ll share some of these stories here, some of my own, too and maybe it will inspire you to have something made especially for you, to tell your own story.

Please do get in touch if you’re unsure about anything, or you’d like some more information.
