H is for hope

This piece has been made especially for an exhibition in Lewes.

I wanted to create a piece combining stones that reflect the word: HOPE.

Throughout history, gemstones have carried meaning far beyond their beauty. Ancient cultures believed stones held power, healing properties, and deep symbolism. From the Egyptians adorning themselves with lapis lazuli for protection, to the Greeks linking amethyst to clarity of mind, people have long turned to these natural treasures as vessels of hope, strength, and guidance.

For centuries, they were worn as talismans, gifted as blessings, and used in rituals to bring courage, love, or renewal. I would like to think that my paintings have the same function, whether it is words like these or special names or initials.

In this latest piece, each stone has been chosen intentionally, layered together to form the word HOPE. Just as people across time have looked to gemstones for light in difficult moments, this work reflects the enduring power of symbols to inspire and uplift.
